Some 2,000 fixed-line land phones of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) in Gulshan, Moghbazar and Rampura areas went offline due to an ongoing development project in Dhaka.
The phone service lines were accidentally cut off during work on a development project supervised by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on the Mouchak-Rampura road on Thursday, said a press release issued in this regard.
The areas suffering from the sudden outage are East Rampura TV Link Road, Zaker Road, High School Road, West Rampura, Molla Bari, Bank Colony, Titas Road, DIT Road, Bowbazar, East Hajipara, Ulan Road, Ulan bazaar, Wapda Power House Road, Bagichar Tek, Omor Ali Lane and West Rampura.
The authorities concerned have already started repair work and are aiming to restore telephone services in the next seven days.
Meanwhile, in a separate press release, BTCL also informed its users that a few telephone numbers under the Gulshan Exchange for improving service. They have primarily changed the Karail RSU Exchange, Mohakhali ICDDRB ONU Exchange, and Banani Supermarket ONU Exchange.
Moreover, they have already started replacing the old telephone numbers from seven digits to 11 digits.
