Rampura police have arrested two people, including Bhagina Tushar, reportedly a top terrorist of Rampura, Badda, and Hatirjheel areas of Dhaka.

They were arrested from Rampura’s Banasree area on Tuesday evening.

The arrestees are Ibrahim Khan Tushar, 34, also known as “Bhagina Tushar” and his associate, Anwar Hossain, 30.

Police seized a toy revolver and two motorcycles from their custody.

Rampura police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Quddus Fakir said that the arrested Tushar and his accomplices came with a motorcycle to an under construction building, belonging to Tuhin Islam, in Rampura Banasree area on Tuesday evening.

Later, they demanded Tk5 lakh from Tuhin as extortion money, threatening to stop all construction work if he failed to pay.

Tushar, at the time, pulled out the toy revolver from his waist and threatened to kill him, when he refused to pay the extortion money, the OC added.

Police said that a patrolling police car of the Rampura police station came to the spot and arrested them on the spot, when Tuhin tactically informed the police about the matter.

Earlier on December 15, 2019, the duo had demanded money from Tuhin. They also beat up the security of the building for not being able to collect and pay the extortion money.

The police OC also said that Tushar is the nephew of another top terrorist, Kala Palash. That is how Tushar is known in the area as “Bhagina Tushar.” Several areas of the capital, including Rampura, Badda and Hatirjheel, were under his control.

Tushar extorted money from traders. At least 14 cases, including arms, explosives, drugs, kidnapping, and extortion, were filed in different police stations of the capital against Tushar, he added.
