147 stranded Bangladeshis return home from India

A total of 147 Bangladesh nationals, stranded in India due to travel restrictions enforced amidst the coronavirus pandemic, have returned home. 

A special Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, carrying the passengers from the Indian capital Delhi, landed at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5:11pm on Thursday.

Tahera Khandaker, deputy general manager (public relations) of the airline, informed Dhaka Tribune of the arrival of the Bangladesh nationals.

Earlier in the day, the ban on all domestic and international flights in Bangladesh was extended till May 30, in line with the extension of the nationwide general holidays.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), in a statement,  said that this ban would be applicable for all scheduled passenger flights.

For its part, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has extended its suspension of flights till May 30.
