Personnel of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have fined a warehouse in Uttara Tk500,000 for storing fake N95 face masks.

RAB raided the warehouse, named Jahanara Enterprise, on Thursday afternoon amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

RAB Executive Magistrate Md Sarwoer Alam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

He said: “Acting on a tip-off, we conducted an operation at the warehouse and found fake N95 masks. The warehouse did not have any approval either from the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA).

“As a result, those involved with it were fined TK500,000 for storing fake N95 masks.”

Earlier, the N95 masks issue came into the spotlight after general masks labeled as N95 were found distributed among hospitals.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has formed a probe committee to investigate the controversy.

As of Thursday, Bangladesh had confirmed 4,186 coronavirus cases, with the death toll rising to 127 after seven new fatalities were reported.

The fast spreading Covid-19 has so far killed 185,000 people in more than 200 countries and territories.
