No person will be allowed to walk or move in groups in Dhaka as part of the government directive to enforce social distancing strategy for next 10 days starting from Thursday.

All the people have been advised not to come out of their houses without emergency needs.

Armed forces members will assist district administration of Dhaka to check whether anyone is ignoring the government directives which requested people to stay at their homes to prevent spread of coronavirus pandemic that already claimed four lives and infected 39 people across Bangladesh.

Under four camps and 17 sub camps, armed forces members will discharge their duties at Dhaka’s two city corporations from Wednesday.

The officials on duty will also check if returnees from abroad are violating the conditions of 14 day mandatory home quarantine.

“The main aim of the activities are to ensure how home quarantine can be made 100% successful in the localities. We will also work on how to create awareness on avoiding gatherings in open areas,” M Mostafizur Rahman, divisional commissioner of Dhaka said on Tuesday after a meeting between civil administration officials and armed forces members at his office in Dhaka.

“The chapter of public gathering is over,” said the divisional commissioner adding that no person shall come in contact with others during the period.

“We have to avoid it,” he said.

“No one shall come out of their house without emergencies,” Mostafizur added.

Civil administration and the armed forces will work together to check and monitor so that no trader can control the supply chain and manipulate price of products using the shutdown initiatives.

Kitchen markets, pharmacies, hotels and grocery stores will be out of the purview of the 10 day shutdown enforced by the government.

People will be allowed for groceries, medicines or emergencies, but people coming out of house without emergencies will not be allowed, he warned.
