The government has asked 32 families in Mirpur to limit their movement following the second death due to coronavirus in Bangladesh.
The 73 year old deceased, who breathed his last at Delta Medical College and Hospital in Mirpur, was a resident of the building. The man was buried at the Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in Mirpur.
“Following instructions from health ministry, we put residents of the flat where the deceased was staying on home quarantine. The residents of other apartments have been asked to limit their movement,” said Mushtaq Ahmed, deputy commissioner of police in Mirpur Division.
Security guard of the building Biplob Mia told Dhaka Tribune police had cordoned off the building since Friday night.
The police left the area after leaving some instructions at 3pm on Saturday, he added.
The building residents have to limit their movement, while no guests will be allowed inside, said Biplob quoting the instructions.
“For emergencies like shopping for essentials, a person from each house can come out,” he said.
The security guard also said the son of the deceased used to live abroad, but is now here. However, he failed to confirm when the son returned to Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the Tolarbagh Flat Owners Association used loudspeakers to ask people in the area to follw the advise from the government regarding coronavirus.
All shops neighboring the apartment have been closed since Saturday afternoon.
Shubhashish Bishwash, president of the flat owners association, told Dhaka Tribune the deceased only left the house to go to the mosque.
“Now our main concern is to take necessary measures so that the virus cannot spread to mosque goers or other residents of the area,” he said.
