Another case has been filed against Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Vice President (VP) Nurul Haque Nur, and his fellow Rashed Khan just days after they came under attack on the Dhaka University campus.
Dhaka University's Jagannath Hall union Outdoor Games Secretary Arnob Hore, also the publicity affairs secretary of the hall unit Chhatra League, filed the case with Dhanmondi model police station under the Digital Security Act on December 26.Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of the police station, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Saturday.
According to the case statement, the accused committed crimes by publishing defamatory information on the social networking site Facebook in a bid to disrupt the country's law and order situation.
The plaintiff also mentioned that two Facebook posts, including a live video stated from Nur's page, on the day of attack carried out on the Ducsu VP on December 22, was baseless where Rashed Khan, a joint convener of quota reformation movement platform, claimed "they were beheaded."
The case statement also mentioned on December 23, Nur also spread false allegations from the page against Chhatra Leagu,e which damaged the image of DU unit Chhatra League as well as unit President Sonjit Chandra Das.
The case was filed after having a discussion with DU unit Chhatra League President Sonjit, the case statement reads.
OC Humayun Kabir said: "The case has been filed with Dhanmondi police station as the plaintiff claimed he watched the video while staying at the Awami League party office situated on Road 3/A under the jurisdiction of our territory."
The latest lawsuit followed another case filed against Nur and 28 others over theft and attempt to murder Muktijuddho Mancha men, who allegedly attacked Nur at the Ducsu office.
Arnob Hore told the journalists that he had gone through with the procedures of filing the case on December 26 and was confirmed by the police station on Saturday morning.
DM Sabbir Hossain, a close associate of Muktijuddho Mancha fugitive president Aminul Islam Bulbul and a former vice president of DU's Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haq hall unit Chhatra League, filed a case with Shahbagh police station on December 25 against 29 activists of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council that spearhead the 2018 quota reform movement.
On December 22, Ducsu VP Nurul Haque Nur and 27 others were injured in an attack allegedly carried out by activists of Chhatra League and Muktijuddho Mancha on the Dhaka University campus.
