Suspected drug trader killed in Dhaka 'gunfight'

A RAB official was also injured in the incident

A suspected drug trader has been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Badda area of Dhaka.

The incident occurred in Satarkul area of Badda around 12:40am on Saturday.

The deceased is RonyMiah, 32, RAB legal and media wing Senior Assistant Director Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan told Dhaka Tribune.

He said acting on a tip-off, a RAB team conducted a drive in the Badda area. Realizing law enforcement's presence, a gang of drug traders opened fire at them, forcing the RAB officials to fire back in self-defence, triggering a gunfight.

Rony was caught in the line of fire, and got injured. RAB member then took him to a nearby hospital, where the duty doctors declared him dead.

A RAB official has also been injured in the incident, he added.

In addition to that, RAB recovered four firearms, nine cartridges, and large amount of yaba pills from the spot.
