A member of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) was killed in a gunfight with the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS), led by Santu Larma, in the Manikchhari-Sapchhari area of Rangamati.
The clash occurred in the Khamarpara Naraichhari area on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of UPDF member Nirmal Khisa, 32.
UPDF spokesperson Angya Marma and the police have confirmed the incident.
"Our activist was killed in an attack by armed members of the Jana Samhati Samiti. We strongly condemn this incident and demand the arrest of those responsible," said Angya Marma.
Rangamati Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shahed Uddin said: "We have received reports that a UPDF member was killed in a gunfight with JSS in Manikchhari. The local union parishad (UP) member confirmed this to me. Further details will be available once police reach the scene."
Efforts to contact JSS representatives for a statement were unsuccessful.
