Two Rohingya refugees were killed in a gunfight between Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) and Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO) members in two separate incidents in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar on Monday morning.
The deceased are Kabir Ahmed, 27, and Nurul Bashar, 55.
Police suspect that the murder took place over establishing dominance between two rival terrorist groups.
Ukhiya police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shamim Hossain said on Monday morning, 30 to 40 armed men picked up Nur Bashar from his house at Jamtoli and shot him.
On the other hand, a group of some 10 people entered Kutupalong Lal Hills Rohingya camp, Block C-2, through a barbed wire fence. They abducted Kabir Ahmed, who was on his way to pray at a local mosque early on Monday, he added.
He was taken outside the camp's perimeter wire and was shot and stabbed, leading to his death on the spot, the OC said.
“The bodies were recovered and sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Further procedures are underway,” he added.
