Law minister: ILO to help enhance work atmosphere

ILO has been working to protect Bangladeshi workers, ILO director says

Law Minister Anisul Huq has said the International Labour Organization (ILO) has assured Bangladesh of providing all-out cooperation in enhancing the work atmosphere.

He came up with the information while speaking to reporters after a meeting with ILO Country Director for Bangladesh Tuomo Poutiainen at the secretariat on Tuesday, reports UNB.

The issue of strengthening the existing friendly relations with the ILO, which is going to celebrate its centenary of the founding this year, came up for discussion at the meeting, the minister said.

Replying to a query, he said they need all kinds of assistance from ILO. “We have discussed about its support and cooperation to materialize our goal to achieve a standard ensuring workers’ rights.”

They will also talk to the Labour and Employment Ministry in this regard, Anisul added.

Talking to reporters, the ILO country director said his organization has been working for the economic development of Bangladesh and protecting workers.

He said ILO will work with the law and labour ministries and others concerned to implement the Labour Act and enhance workers’ skills.
