Anick gave confessional statement in the Abrar murder case under Section 164 to Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atikul Islam

Update : 13 Oct 2019, 05:28 PM

Jailer of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj has claimed Anick Sarker, one of the accused in the murder case of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) student Abrar Fahad, was not tortured in prison.

Mahbubul Islam, the jailer, made the claim on Sunday, refusing media reports that Anick was flogged inside the jail.

He told the Dhaka Tribune: "Not at all. No incident of beating happened. He [Anick] entered into prison after 7pm [Saturday] when everyone was locked."

He said Anick was kept in Padma building with few ordinary prisoners.

Anick gave a confessional statement under Section 164 to Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atikul Islam on Saturday after the end of his 5-day remand.

After confessional statement, the prison van carrying Anick reached the Keraniganj jail around 7:30pm.

It was reported in some media outlets that he was beaten by some prisoners while entering into prison cell.

Anick, the expelled information and research affairs secretary of Buet Chhatra League unit, was placed on a five-day remand on October 8 after his arrest in connection with the murder of Abrar Fahad.

Abrar, a second year student of the electrical and electronic engineering department, was beaten to death inside the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall on October 7.

Some Chhatra League leaders have been accused of beating him to death for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
