A 65-year-old inmate of Dhaka Central Jail died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital
Inmate Abdul Khaleque brought to DMCH in an unconscious state around 12:30am on Friday where doctors pronounced him dead.
Abdul Khaleque prisoner number 6718/A, was the son of the late Kafil Uddin.
Prison guard Abdullah said the inmate fell ill suddenly during the night. Following jail authorities’ instructions, he was rushed to the DMCH emergency department for advanced treatment. Doctors, however, declared him dead upon arrival. The specific case for which he had been convicted was not immediately known.
Md Faruk, officer in charge of the DMCH Police Outpost, said the body was kept in the hospital morgue for an autopsy. In line with regulations, an inquest report (surat-e-hal) will be prepared in the presence of an executive magistrate. After completing the autopsy and legal procedures, the body will be handed over to the family.
