2 die, one injured in Dhaka road crashes

In Mohammadpur, a bicyclist was killed after a truck hit him in Beribandh area

Two people were killed and a child injured in separate road accidents in capital Dhaka yesterday.

In Kakrail area, a woman was killed and her fifth grader son injured when a pickup van rammed into their rickshaw.

The incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Masuda Begum, 35, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Bachchu Miah of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost.

Her son Jisan Islam Mahin, 9, was admitted to the hospital and undergoing treatment, he added.

SI Bachchu said: "Masuda died on the spot after the accident, but Mahin was left injured. Pedestrians near the area rescued him and took him to DMCH. The boy is out of danger."

Masuda's husband Mofazzal Hawladar, who works as a chauffeur, said his wife and younger son had just returned from their ancestral house in Barisal in the morning.

SI Bachchu said Masuda’s body was kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.

In Mohammadpur, a bicyclist was killed after a truck hit him in Beribandh area around 10:30am yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Zahid, 35. He lived in the city’s Kamrangirchar area, reports BSS.

Mohammadpur police station SI Lob Chauhan said Zahid, who worked at a local garage, died on the spot after a speeding truck ran him over.

Police impounded the truck with the help of locals. Zahid’s body was later sent to DMCH for an autopsy.
