Buet Teachers' Association President Dr AKM Masud has said Abrar Fahad died due to the failure of the university authorities’ to protect students.
Expressing solidarity with the demonstrating students on Tuesday, he also condemned the murder of Abrar, who was beaten to death allegedly by Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) unit Chhatra League leaders.
He also criticized Chhatra League, the student wing of ruling Awami League, for allegedly torturing students inside dormitories of the university.
Dr AKM Masud said: “It was the duty of the university authorities to ensure full safety and security of every residential student on campus, but they have failed to do so.
“Their inactiveness in stopping torture and ragging in the dormitories in the past to led to Abrar’s murder.”
“The security system of Buet has collapsed. The university authorities must take the responsibility of Abrar’s murder,” he added.
Dr AKM Masud also said: “We urge the concerned authorities and government to ensure justice.”
He also asked the university authorities to ensure safety of all students inside campus.
The association will notify the next course of plan after holding a meeting on Wednesday morning.
Some Chhatra League leaders have been accused of beating him for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Meanwhile, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 people with Chawkbazar police station on Monday evening.
Later, Bangladesh Chhatra League expelled 11 of its members permanently from the organization for their involvement in Abrar’s murder.
Abrar’s death sparked protest across Bangladesh. The protesters have demanded justice for Abrar and capital punishment for the murderers.
As of now, 10 people have been arrested in connection to the murder.
