Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has stated that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will not spare those who are involved in criminal activities.

He made these remarks at a press briefing at Awami League president's political office in Dhanmondi Tuesday morning.

Quader said: "It is not unusual that miscreants will try to infiltrate a party that is in power. Some of these people have found their way inside Awami League, but the prime minster will spare anyone who is infiltrating the party or is involved with criminal activities."

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Quader also said police took action against those accused of killing Abrar Fahad, a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), following the prime minister's instructions.

Abrar Fahad, a second year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of the university (Buet), was allegedly beaten to death by some Chhatra League leaders for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir - the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

At least nine members of Buet unit Chhatra League have been detained in connection with the murder. Meanwhile, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 people with Chawkbazar police station on Monday evening.

Besides, Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of Awami League, earlier suspended 11 leaders from its committee.

Quader further said: “Chhatra League activists usually engage in various altruistic activities, but the misdeeds of a few always tend to become headlines, staining the image of the entire student wing.”

Among others, Awami League Joint General Secretaries Mahabubul Alam Hanif and Jahangir Kabir Nanak were present at the briefing.
