Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has taken up the investigation on the drug and arms case against former organizing secretary of Awami Jubo League’s (Dhaka South) unit Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) was investigating arms and drug cases till now.
The case was formally handed over to the RAB from the DB Wednesday evening.
Confirming the matter, Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, senior assistant director of RAB’s legal and media wing, said they are now investigating the two cases.
RAB has obtained the documents of those two cases, he added.
Khalid was arrested by RAB for running an unauthorized casino in Fakirerpool Youngmen’s Club in Dhaka last Wednesday.
During the raid, law enforcement officials seized a shotgun, two pistols, 57 rounds of shotgun shells, 53 rounds of bullets, 585 yaba pills, over Tk10 lakh, and more than Tk7 lakh in foreign currencies.
As a result, RAB officials filed four cases in the Gulshan and Motijheel police stations the following day under the Narcotics Control Act, Arms Act, and Money Laundering Prevention Act.
On Thursday, two Dhaka courts also granted police seven days to interrogate Khalid.
