New DMP commissioner takes charge

Shafiqul DMP’s 34th Commissioner

Md Shafiqul Islam, newly-appointed commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), has taken charge.

He replaces outgoing Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia, according to the Public Security Division of the Home Ministry notification in this regard last month.

Before assuming office as the DMP chief, he served as chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police since May 16.

He joined the Bangladesh Police as Assistant Superintendent of Police in the 8th BCS (Police) cadre. In the course of his career, Shafiqul Islam served as Superintendent of Police in Narayanganj, Patuakhali, Sunamganj, and Cumilla districts.

Shafiqul, who is the DMP’s 34th Commissioner, was awarded the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) more than twice for his professionalism and skill.

He was born to a respected Muslim family of Naoda Bondo Beel village in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga district and completed his BSc (Hons) degree from the Bangladesh Agricultural University in 1986.

Outgoing DMP Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Security Affairs Cell under the Cabinet Division for a three-year term.
