Two traffic police constables and one community traffic member have been injured in a blast in Dhaka's Gulistan area.
The improvised bomb went off around 7pm on Monday, few hours after two people were killed in a blast a suspected militant den in Dhaka.
According to a statement in the Site Intelligence Group, the Islamic State claimed the attack.
The statement said: "For the first time in two years, the Islamic State claimed credit for an attack in Bangladesh, bombing policemen in the capital, Dhaka."
However, the claims made by IS has not been verified yet as no evidence has been found to back up the claim.
Addressing the press, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, during his visit to see the injured at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said: "Authorities are looking into Islamic State’s (IS) alleged involvement in the cocktail blast in Dhaka."
When contacted regarding the Islamic State's claim, DMP Motijheel Division Additional Deputy Commissioner Shibli Noman, said: "We are investigating the matter keeping everything in mind."
Bangladesh authorities have always rejected the claim and the notion that IS is active in Bangladesh.
