Digital car parking service inaugurated in Dhaka

A digital multi-level car parking service was inaugurated in Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Central Command and Control Centre building in the capital.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Md Javed Patwary inaugurated the eight-storey digital car parking on Tuesday around 10am, in the presence of several senior police officials.

The project was implemented by the Police Headquarters Development Branch 1 with support from Aziz & Company Ltd, a leading electro mechanical firm and renowned contractor in Bangladesh.

According to the digital car parking management, with this parking facility, a total of 34 cars can be parked, whereas, normally only six cars would occupy the space. It is now divided into unit A and unit B, which will accommodate 17 cars each.

Javed Patwary said: “The country lacks proper car parking spaces and we have more cars than we can accommodate. This modern car parking service is an innovative idea and such parking systems are prevalent in many developed countries of the world."

“The mechanical parking can accommodate 34 cars at once. It is an experimental parking arrangement, based on its assessment more digital car parking will be established in future.”

The service operators will have to work carefully, so that no accident occurs. Similar projects in the future will depend on the success of this initiative, he added.
