Update : 14 Jul 2020, 11:18 PM

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has said he wishes to institute a dedicated medical services department of Bangladesh police.

“We want to develop medical system as well,” he said on the last day of a two-day long workshop at police headquarters with doctors, nurses, medical technologists and social workers of the Central Police Hospital on Tuesday.

Doctors of Central Police Hospital are currently deputized from other hospitals. A dedicated medical services department would mean permanent staff to provide police with medical support whenever necessary.

The workshop was arranged to gather knowledge form the attendees about the equipment and facilities needed to form the medical services department.

“With your opinions, we want to develop a dedicated treatment system for police,” the IGP said.

He also thanked the staff of the Central Police Hospital as their help had ensured the swift recovery of many police officers who contracted Covid-19.

“We want the Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital to be made into one of the best hospitals, where police personnel could get treatment for all kinds of diseases,” said Benazir, adding that police hospitals in other divisions and districts would also be modernized.
