Eleven injured survivors of the ghastly Chawkbazar fire incident have received Tk50,000 each from prime minister’s relief fund.
The injured survivors are currently undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Dr Samanta Lal Sen, chief coordinator of the DMCH burn and plastic surgery unit, said he had handed over the donation to the patients on Sunday.
DMCH Director Brig Gen AKM Nasiruddin and Burn Unit Director Professor Abul Kalam Azad were also present at that time among others.
Of the 11 patients, nine are being treated at the burn unit and two are in other units at DMCH. Three of them will be released soon.
Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went to DMCH burn unit to visit the injured survivors of the Chawkbazar fire incident where she announced the donations.
On the night of February 20, a devastating fire broke out in a chemical warehouse in Churihatta area of Old Dhaka’s Chawkbazar, leaving at least 67 dead and many others injured.
