The strike at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has been called off after authorities formed a probe body to investigate allegations of assault on a nurse.

A group of nurses went on strike, on Thursday morning, after a reported assault on their coworker by a BSMMU hospital staff member.

The nurses observed the strike from 10am in front of the outdoor unit of the hospital.

Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Hasan said they called it off around 11:30am, after the authorities assured them that they would investigate the matter.

He said the BSMMU authorities formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the incident.

The hospital director could not be reached by phone for comment.

Wishing to remain anonymous, a hospital official said a nurse, her husband, and a hospital staff member got into an altercation on Wednesday night.

The matter was resolved by the authorities at night, but the nurses went on strike regarding the matter in the morning.

Eyewitness said the strike lead to a hassle for patients.

OC Hasan said: “The situation is under control now. They are going back to work.”
