Police has found the body of a film actor and director of stage, TV and film hanging from a ceiling fan from his Uttara residence on Friday.
Identified as Tanveer Hasan Osmani, he is an actor and director of film, television and stage shows.
Officer in-Charge of Uttara (East) police station Nure Alam Siddique confirming the matter told the Dhaka Tribune that they have sent Tanveer’s body to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
According to family members of the deceased, Tanveer, who lived in his sister’s house, has been suffering from mental illness for a long time. We suspect that Tanveer committed suicide because of this mental condition, he added.
Sub-Inspector Abdur Rahim of the police station said on Friday night that, as usual, Tanveer went to sleep at around 12:30am. In the morning at around 10:30am, when the house maid came to clean Tanveer’s room, she saw his body hanging from the ceiling fan and started screaming. She then called his family members.
Police was informed and the body and later sent for autopsy, he added.
Tanveer was a member of Dhaka Little Theatre. Later in his life, he joined Dhaka Natyakendra.
Besides, acting Tanveer also directed numerous numbers of Television Commercials (TVCs) and short films. As a TVC director he earned good reputation in the industry.
He was also a painter and fashion designer. The actor turned director, completed HSC from Dhaka College, and finished both undergraduate and post-graduate from the Department of Drama and Dramatics of the Jahangirnagar University.
