Police suspects the husband killed the wife and later committed suicide

Update : 28 Aug 2020, 12:15 PM

Police have recovered the bodies of a couple from a flat in Dhaka's West Nakhalpara.

Police recovered the husband’s body hanging from the ceiling while the wife was lying dead on the floor on Friday morning.

The deceased are Ajmat Ali and his wife Farjana.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner (Tejgaon zone) Mahmud Khan said the flat from where the bodies were recovered, is a non-governmental organization (NGO) office.

Farjana worked as a maid for the NGO while Ajmat was a fishmonger. They lived in a rented home near the office. However, Farjana would stay at the office during the holiday for security reasons, he added.

The assistant commissioner also said that Ajmat and Farjana were having a family feud for some time.

On Thursday, Ajmat came to visit Farjana at the office with their children. Later, he sent the children back home as he needed to talk to their mother.

On Friday morning, the children came back to the office and knocked at the door but there was no response. Later, they broke in to find their parents dead and called “999.”

“On information, we reached the scene and recovered the bodies. There were signs of injuries on the woman’s head,” said Mahmud.

“We suspect the couple quarreled. At one point Ajmat hit his wife with something and strangled her to death. Later, he committed suicide,” he added.

“The bodies have been sent to the morgue for autopsy and we are still investigating the matter to determine what actually happened,” said the police official.
