The Dhaka Tribune’s reporter Bilkis Irani has received the best reporting award 2018 by the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).
She won the award for her report "Who is behind rice price hikes?," in the food and agriculture sector.
A total of 19 journalists from different media outlets were awarded in 15 categories—in a ceremony held at the association’s Segunbagicha office on Thursday.
Meanwhile, The Bangla Tribune's journalist Shahed Shafique got award for "Kotota basjoggo Bhashan Char?" – “How habitable is Bhashan Char?”– in politics and good governance.
Saiful Alam, acting editor of the daily Jugantor and one of the jurists, congratulated the recipients.
He said there are various problems in this challenging occupation.
“Our reporters cannot write freely due to many challenges. However, they are performing well and defying all hurdles,” Saiful said.
Dhaka University former vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique was present at the event as the chief guest.
