A woman has been killed in a road accident on Panthapath Road in Dhaka.

The woman became the victim of a hit-and-run offence, by an ambulance, while crossing Panthapath Road, around 6am, on Monday.

She has been identified as Shilpi Akther, who used to work as domestic help in multiple residences.

Rasel, nephew of the deceased, said Shilpi left the house for work around 6am. When she was crossing the road, an ambulance hit her. Locals then rushed her to a nearby hospital.

When her condition deteriorated, the hospital referred her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. There, around 8:30am, the doctor on duty declared her dead.

Shilpi hailed from Mymensingh, and was a mother of three.

Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station Officer-in-Charge Gopal Ganesh Biswas, confirming the matter, told the Dhaka Tribune that police later detained the ambulance, but the driver managed to flee.
