Despite the transport strike, the capital’s streets saw a fair amount of traffic jam on Sunday as office and school-going commuters took to various ride-sharing services in order to reach their destinations.
In the morning rush hour the services were completely clogged.
An official of Pathao, the locally owned ride-sharing service, said they had seen an increase of assumed 50% in its rides on Sunday. The official also said that usually Pathao’s clients take 50,000 rides all over Bangladesh every day.

A marketing official with Shohoj, another ride-sharing service, said they had seen an increase of 22% in their services.
Samaul Haque, a Brac University student who went to class in Mohakhali from Mirpur, said usually he rides the bus but on Sunday he had to take a Pathao ride.
“And as most of the people were searching for rides in the apps. It took me almost half an hour to get a ride,” he said.
