Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit has filed a case against 28 social media users and online news portals, charging them with instigating students during their ongoingmovement for road safety.
DMP's Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) YeasinMiah filed the case with Ramna Police Station.
Aimed at deteriorating the law and order situation, various provocative posts, pictures, and videos were uploaded to multiple social media. These include Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, online news portals, and blogs, according to the case statement.
CTTC cybercrime unit Additional Deputy Commissioner Nazmul Islam said 28 IDs that were instigating students have been identified, and a case has been filed under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology Act on August 2.
“Some evil people are trying to contaminate the peaceful movement both online and offline. They are trying to push the movement online to support their interest through fake and real IDs by circulating propaganda to create hatred, which resulted in some violence,” he said.
DMP's CTTC filed the case taking the overall law and order situation into consideration and to keep the internet safe, he added.
“We will take action against these IDs from tonight,” he said yesterday.
