The Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB) has asked students protesting for road safety to withdraw from the streets taking the public suffering into consideration.
In the statement issued on Friday, APUB President Sheikh Kabir Hossain said the government had already accepted the students' demands and was working to implement them.
“We are deeply saddened by the death of two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College on Airport Road as a speeding bus of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan ploughed through a group of students while racing to pick up passengers, also injuring 12-13 others,” he said in the statement. “We fully support the nine-point demand put forth by the students to ensure road safety.”

Addressing the student protesters, the APUB president said: “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already directed the authorities concerned to immediately implement your demands. Put your trust on her; I request you to take the public suffering in consideration and withdraw from the streets.”
Students of schools and colleges have been blocking roads and staging demonstrations in Dhaka and other cities across Bangladesh demanding road safety and strict implementation of traffic laws since July 29, the day the Airport Road accident took place.
For the sixth consecutive day on Friday, students continued their demonstrations in Dhaka, during which they regulated traffic and checked drivers' licences.
