2 killed in truck-motorcycle collision in Gazipur  

The victims died after a truck hit their motorcycle on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway

Two friends were killed after a truck hit their motorcycle on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in the Joina Bazar area of Sreepur upazila in Gazipur on early Friday. 

The deceased were identified as Soleman Sikdar, 22, son of Hasin Sikdar of Sarengkandi village in Jajira upazila of Shariatpur, and Kawsar Hossain, 28, son of Gias Uddin of South Mandail in Keraniganj, Dhaka.

Soleman was involved in business in Keraniganj, while Kawsar was employed there. They had developed a close friendship while living and working in the area.

Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Maona Highway Police Station, quoting the victims' relative Mohammad Ali Shanto, said: “Four friends, Soleman Sikdar, Kawsar Hossain, Arif and Sajjad left Keraniganj on 2 motorcycles for Trishal in Mymensingh. When they reached the Joina Bazar area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Sreepur, a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit the motorcycle carrying Soleman and Kawsar. They fell onto the highway and died on the spot.”

He added: “The motorcycle was badly damaged in the accident. After receiving the information, police recovered the bodies the same night and took them to the police station. The truck involved and the damaged motorcycle have been seized and kept at the police station. The driver fled the scene after the accident. Further legal procedures are underway following an application from the victims' relatives.”
