A piece of paper, which appears to be a suicide note, has been recovered from the office desk of Jasmine Aktar who was found dead with her two daughters at a government staff quarter in Dhaka last week.
Police have sent it to the forensic lab of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to ascertain whether Jasmine had written it.
In the purported note, recovered on Thursday from her desk at Department of Agricultural Extension, she blamed “cruel fate” for her death.
Bodies of the woman and her daughters – Hasiba Tahsin Himi, 9, and Adiba Tahsin Honey, 5 – were recovered on April 30. A blood-stained knife was also found at the scene.
Darussalam police’s Officer-in-Charge Md Selimuzzaman said the woman’s colleagues had initially confirmed that it was her handwriting. “We have sent it to the CID forensic lab for confirmation.”
No case has been lodged yet. Police have filed a general diary but were yet to find any clue. Police say the autopsy report would clarify whether the mother had killed herself after murdering her children.
Family members say Jasmine and her husband Hasibul Islam seemingly had no problems or were not going through any marital discord.

Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital’s Forensic Department head Prof Dr Selim Reja said all three victims had stab wounds. Viscera samples have been collected for further tests. “The injury marks were a bit unusual,” he added.
Policemen, who recovered the bodies, said Jasmine’s throat and wrists were found slit and she had eight to 10 stab wounds. Himi had three stab wounds with her throat and wrists slit. Honey had one stab wound in her abdomen.
Jasmine’s brother Shahinur Islam said his sister was under mental pressure over balancing her personal life and career. “She worried a lot over her job and bringing up the children,” he said.
He said his sister also suffered from migraine. “She took 34 sleeping pills at once last month as she was unable to bear the pain,” Shahinur recalled.
Jasmine married Hasibul, an assistant legislative draftsman at the Parliament Secretariat, in 2008. Their eldest daughter was a class II student at Paikpara’s model academy school.
