Workshop on flood recovery project organized

A workshop on flood recovery project has been organized to share experiences of interventions in Gulshan, Dhaka. The workshop was held on Wednesday. Save the Children, along with Brac and World Vision, has been implementing such flash flood recovery projects in north-east Bangladesh sponsored by UKAID through the UN Office for the Project Services (UNOPS). Director General of NGO Affairs Bureau (NGOAB) KM Abdus Salam was present as chief guest on the occasion, while Director General (in-charge) Khaled Mahmood of the Department of Disaster Management attended as special guest. Ezabat Ullah, consortium manager of Save the Children shared key findings of flood recovery program while Mostak Hussain, director of Humanitarian of Save the Children gave the introductory speech. Regarding flood intervention, Abdus Salam said: “I am glad to know that NGOs have involved local communities and local administration in implementing flood recovery project. Coordination with government agencies would help sustain activities even after completion of the project.” Khaled said: “Bangladesh is vulnerable to extreme weather events, and floods cause great damage to our lives and livelihoods almost every year. Experience shared today on the interventions made in Haor areas would help us guide future programs in the north-western part of Bangladesh.” Ambia, who came from a remote location of Jamalganj under Sunamganj district said: “Interventions were timely and cash support provided immediately after the flood helped us immensely to resume livelihood activities.”
