The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday awarded six journalists for their investigative reporting against corruption, as part of their Corruption Prevention Week-2018 that began on March 26. From the print media category of “Dudak Media Award-2018 (ACC media award)," Abu Saleh Rony, staff reporter of Samakal received the first prize while Nesarul Haque Khokon, senior reporter (investigation) of Jugantor, got the second prize and Bibhas Baroi, senior staff reporter of Janakantha, received the third prize. From the electronic media category, Mahbub Kabir Chapol, staff reporter of ATN Bangla, received the first prize while Badruddoza Babu, special reporter of Machranga Television, got the second prize and ASM Jahirul Islam, senior correspondent of NTV, got the third prize. Winners were given a crest, certificate and prize money during a program at the ACC headquarters in Dhaka. Chief guest State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan handed the prizes to the winners, while ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood, Commisioner AFM Aminul Islam, Secretary Dr Md Shamsul Arefin, Jury board member Monjurual Ahsan Bulbul, and Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) Director General Shah Alamgir were present. The state minister said: “Investigative reports are the most powerful tool against corruption. For example, former American president Nixon had to resign over the Watergate investigation report. “A investigative report can destroy someone’s life and journalists must act responsibly. We appreciate the ACC for continuing to do a good job by holding the corrupt accountable.” ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood said: “You (journalists) are a great source of information for us. We base our point of investigation based on your reports. Keep doing that and we will protect you from intimidation. Write about our mistakes as well and we will try to rectify that too.” Meanwhile, the authorities concerned of the anti graft watchdog brought out a procession in the morning in front of National Press Club as part of the celebration of the week to raise awareness against corruption.
