Condolences pour in for Annisul

Tributes are pouring in for DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq, who passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in London, UK around 4:23pm local time on Thursday. Ministers, diplomats, politicians, different socio-cultural organisations and people from all walks of life have expressed deep shock at his death on different platforms, reported BSS. President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina both expressed deep shock at his death, recalling his contributions to the development of Dhaka North in their messages. The DNCC issued a message on Friday announcing three days of mourning in the city. Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokhon broke down in tears when he remembered his colleague during a memorial service at his Banani residence on Friday. “I had a close relationship with him. Every morning, we used to exchange ideas on how to resolve various issues in Dhaka. He inspired me with his ideas and actions, and drew inspiration from my activities. During the last two and a half years that we worked as mayors, we resolved several problems together. We were able to bring many positive changes,” Khokon told reporters. “Now he is gone. I never imagined that he would leave us so suddenly.” Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in a message expressed deep shock at Annisul’s death and recalled him as a famous and successful businessman, industrialist and a person with modern ideals. “He was much focused on the development of Dhaka North City Corporation and people living in the area,” the speaker said. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Friday said the city had lost an iconic, honest and spirited mayor, reported Bangla Tribune. “We are deeply saddened by his death. I doubt the DNCC would ever get a mayor like him.” Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Science and Technology Minister Yeafesh Osman, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, and Bikalpadhara Bangladesh President Badruddozza Chowdhury also expressed condolences for the late mayor, reported UNB and BSS.
