Bangladesh National Authority for Chemicals Weapons Convention (BNACWC) organised a symposium on Tuesday to mark the 20th founding anniversary of Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). The programme, titled “Chemical Weapons Convention for the Peaceful Uses of Chemistry,” was held at the Radisson Blu Water Garden in Dhaka.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the programme.
Bangladesh Ambassador to the Netherlands and also Permanent Representative to the OPCW, Sheikh Mohammed Belal was present at the symposium as the special guest.
A poster exhibition, featuring topics such as chemical safety and peaceful uses of chemistry was organised at the venue. 153 students from five public universities across Bangladesh participated in the exhibition.
Five posters were chosen as the “Best Five.”
A display of chemical safety equipment, jointly facilitated by Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence and Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) was also organised at the programme.
The winners of the poster design competition were awarded certificates and crests during the conclusion of the symposium.
The programme was attended by 170 representatives from eminent organisations, public universities and government ministries, who are responsible for controlling, inspecting, using and trading chemical substances.
