Update : 29 Aug 2017, 11:12 PM
Ishrak Ahmed, 20, a student at McGill University, Canada has allegedly gone missing from Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area three days ago. Ishrak was last seen near Star Kabab at Dhanmondi Road no 15 around 8:30pm on Saturday, according to police and family. His father Jamaluddin Ahmed on Sunday lodged a general diary (GD) over his disappearance with the Dhanmondi police station, confirmed its Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Latif. “Ishrak came to Dhaka on vacation in June. On the evening of August 26, he was with his friends in front of Eden Multi-care Hospital next to Star Kabab. In the CCTV video footage we collected, we saw Ishrak and his friend leave Star Kabab around 8:30pm. “He headed towards Eden and then returned again to Star Kabab and then disappeared into the camera’s blind spot. There was no sign of him after that,” he said. The OC said police were also looking into possible ties to any militant or extremist groups. He also said they tried to locate Ishrak through his mobile phone signal but it is currently turned off: “We also questioned his friends but they were unable to shed any light on his disappearance.” The family also has not received any calls for ransom, police said. According to the GD his father filed, Ishrak, the eldest child of his parents, was wearing a pair of blue jeans and a blue shirt when he was last seen in public. His father, Jamaluddin told the Bangla Tribune: “We saw in the CCTV footage that Ishrat had started walking towards home after his friends left. But then he went back the way he came from. “We don’t know what happened to him. Our house is only minutes away from the place where he was last seen. We’re confused and scared.”  This article was first published on Bangla Tribune
