The Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) has assured of continuing its assistance in Bangladesh's development.
Jica President Dr Shinichi Kitaoka made the assurance during a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official Ganabhaban residence on Thursday, BSS reported.
The prime minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
"Bangladesh and Japan have been enjoying good relations and Jica will never stop cooperation with Dhaka," Ihsanul Karim quoted the Jica president as saying.
A five-member Jica delegation led by the Jica president arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday on a three-day official visit to see several development projects financed by the organisation and review the security situation in Bangladesh after the Dhaka terror attack.
Kitaoka expressed his satisfaction over the security measures taken in Bangladesh after last year's militant attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka's Gulshan area.
"We are very much satisfied with the security measures under your leadership," he told the prime minister.
The Jica president highly appreciated the government's initiatives to clamp down terrorism and militancy.
Kitaoka highly lauded Bangladesh's socioeconomic uplift under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
"I am really impressed to see the development that took place in Bangladesh under your dynamic leadership... you have overcome so many hurdles and it's our pleasure to contribute to Bangladesh's development," he said.
The prime minister conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the families of the seven Japanese nationals who were killed my militants at Holey Artisan Bakery on July 1 last year.
Terming terrorism a global problem, Sheikh Hasina said: "We have taken all steps to combat it."
