FBCCI leaders: Improving railways can boost Bangladesh’s development

The business leaders praised the government decision to launch a bullet train on the Dhaka-Chattogram route

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) leaders on Monday called for the overall development of Bangladesh’s railway sector, saying it would boost the country’s development activities.

Business leaders made the recommendation at a meeting of the FBCCI Standing Committee on the Ministry of Railways, held at the FBCCI Board Room.

Highlighting the need for more transport rails to keep up the pace of development in the country, FBCCI Senior Vice President Sheikh Fazle Fahim said: “We also need to expand the activities of Komlapur ICD (Inland Container Depot).”

Citing the huge potential of country’s railway sector and the integral role it played in development, the FBCCI leaders placed emphasis on adding more transport trains and additional compartments for transportation of goods on various routes in the country, particularly the Dhaka-Chottogram route.

The discussants at the meeting further urged for rapid service at connecting rails with Chottogram port, Mongla and Benapole. They also supported the government decision to launch a bullet train on the Dhaka-Chattogram route in the near future.

Sarwar Wadud Chowdhury, chairman of the Standing Committee, presented its detailed future plan for railway development.

FBCCI Directors Masud Parvez Khan, Md Rejaul Kariem Rejnu, Hafez Harun, Co-Chairmen of the Committee Md Firoz Alam Sumon and Biplob Chand Dugar were present during the discussion, among others.
