Miscreants set fire to a compartment of the Jaria local train at Mymensingh Railway Station early Wednesday, damaging several parts of some seats, while a gunpowder-like substance was found scattered on others.
However, before the fire could spread, members of the railway security force brought it under control. At that moment, the attackers fled when Ansar members chased them.
Mymensingh Railway Station Superintendent Abdullah Al Harun confirmed the incident, saying that the immediate and courageous action of the railway security force foiled the miscreants’ attempt. Train operations and the overall situation at Mymensingh Junction Railway Station are now normal.
OC Akhtar Hossain of Mymensingh CRP police station said that the compartments of the Jaria local train had been parked at the wash pit outside the station platform for cleaning. It remains very dark there at night. Taking advantage of this, a group of miscreants set the train on fire at dawn using gunpowder and petrol with the intent of sabotage. However, once the Ansar members noticed the incident and chased them, the attackers fled, and the fire was brought under control.
He added that security in the station area has now been strengthened. Legal action is underway regarding the attempted sabotage.
