Three unidentified men allegedly poisoned Mayesha Wazed Prapti, daughter of Advocate Wazed Ali Khokon, in Narayanganj on Wednesday evening.
The 19-year-old is currently admitted at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Wazed Ali was the public prosecutor in the trial of Narayanganj seven-murder case, in which the High Court delivered its verdict on the death references and appeals just the day before.
Speaking to reporters at the DMCH, Mayesha's mother Selina Wazed said Mayesha was going to a tuition class at Bangabandhu Road when three unidentified men cornered her asking if she was Wazed Ali's daughter.
“When she said yes, they said her father had done a good job with the seven-murder case and they wanted to give her some sweets. As she refused their offer, they took something poisonous out of a polythene bag and poured it on her mouth.
“Mayesha tried to get away from the attackers, and seeing people around them, the goons also got in their car and fled the scene. Mayesha called her father on his phone and he went to the spot to get her.”
She was first taken to Narayanganj General Hospital, but was transferred to the DMCH. Doctors said her stomach had been pumped and she was out of danger now.
When contacted, Narayanganj Superintendent of Police Moinul Huq did not say if the attack was directly related to Wazed's involvement in the seven-murder case trial.
“Her family claims that it is. We are looking into this matter. Nothing can be confirmed until the investigation is finished,” he added.
