A 25-year-old man was beaten to death by a mob over allegations of snatching at Fatullah in Narayanganj on Saturday night.
The victim was identified as Zisan, son of Yunus alias Inu Mia of Paschim Masdair. He was reportedly picked up from his house by 30 to 40 members of Al Falah Welfare Organization, a local anti-drug and anti-crime group formed by mosque imam Kawsar Ahmed.
According to the victim's family, Zisan was tied to an electric pole at Masdair intersection, severely beaten, and later handed over to his relatives in a critical condition. He was rushed to Khanpur 300-bed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Imam Kawsar denied involvement in the assault, saying local residents attacked Zisan following allegations that he snatched a mobile phone and cash from a youth.
Inspector of Fatullah Police Station Anwar Hossain said the victim died from injuries sustained in the mob beating. Police recovered the body, found multiple injury marks, and launched an investigation, he said.
