Injured Puja Majumdar, a class-IX student of Jamila Khatun Girls' School in Modanmohanpara of the town, was admitted to Sadar Hospital.
Victim’s mother Shikha Majumdar said one youth named Litu Hossain used to harass Puja on her way to and back from school as she refused his love proposal.
On Monday evening, Litu stormed into Puja's residence and left promptly following stabbing her indiscriminately.
Sadar police station OC Harendranath Sarkar said: “Being informed, I have sent police to the spot. We are trying our best to arrest the culprit. Next course of action will be adopted after receiving the complaint.”
The hospital's physician Dr Masuduzzaman said they found deep injury marks in Puja's head.
