A bus driver allegedly tortured his wife to death at his residence in Chittagong city’s Shulokbohor area early yesterday over conjugal disputes.
Police detained the alleged killer husband Sirajul Islam and his so-called sister Jaheda in this connection, said police sources.
The body of the victim, Towhida Akhter Akhi, 19, a readymade garment worker, was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy, said the sources.
Quoting locals and the next-doors of the couple, Abu Jafor Mohammad Omar Faruk, officer-in-charge (OC) of Panchlaish police station, told the Dhaka Tribune that Sirajul allegedly tortured Akhi early yesterday as usual which resulted Akhi’s death sometime during the dawn.
Later, locals detained the duo suspecting their involvement in the alleged murder and handed over Sirajul and Jaheda to police, he said.
During initial interrogation, Sirajul, however, denied his involvement with the death of his wife, the OC added.
Akhi’s father lodged a case with Panchlaish police station in this regard.
