Former Rab officer Lt Commander SM Masud Rana has admitted his involvement in the killing of seven people in Narayanganj including Narayanganj City Corporation Panel Mayor Nazrul Islam.
He has confessed his involvement in the killings in a statement given before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate KM Mohiuddin, said Sakhawat Hossain, president of the Narayanganj District Lawyers’ Association on Thursday.
Former RAB-officer Lt Commander MM Rana, one of the accused in the Narayanganj killing case, has started giving his confessional statement before a district court on Thursday.
He was produced before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate KM Mohiuddin around 11:30am.
On Wednesday, Maj (retd) Arif Hossain, one of the three former RAB officers held in connection with the Narayanganj seven murders, confessed and said other men from the force were also involved.
Arif reportedly made the disclosure while giving a confessional statement before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate KM Mohiuddin of Narayanganj.
According to a source in the Narayanganj court, amid tight security, Arif delivered two statements in separate cases filed by the families of slain city panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Sarkar.
Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Sarkar along with five others were killed and their bodies were dumped into River Shitalakkhya after they were abducted on April 27.
The family members of Nazrul alleged that RAB 11 Commanding Officer Lt Col Tareq Sayeed Mohammad and two other RAB 11 officials–Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander SM Masud Rana–killed all the seven persons for Tk6 crore.
On April 28, the authorities concerned had withdrawn all the three RAB-11 officials along with the Narayanganj superintendent of police and the deputy commissioner.
Following the allegations, the AFD sent Lt Col Tareq Sayeed Mohammad and Major Rana on premature retirement from the Army and Lt Commander SM Masud Rana on forced retirement from the Navy.
