The Customs Intelligence and Investigation (CIID) personnel have seized 48 gold bars weighing around 5.6kg at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in capital early Thursday.
Director General of the CIID Moinul Khan said: “Acting on a tip-off, the smuggled gold bars were seized from a cargo hole of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight around 3:30am.”
“The bars were wrapped into a piece of black coloured cloth and technically hidden inside the hole. The estimated price of the gold bars is Tk2.5 crore.”
All though no one was yet arrested in connection with incident but they had the information about suspected carrier and owner of the gold bars, he said.
Declining to disclose the identities of the suspects, the top official of the CIID said they were trying to become sure about the suspects and arrest them.
