Unique way of extortion

The crime busting force Rapid Action Battalion members yesterday arrested two criminals of a gang in the capital, who extort money from people in a unique style.

The detainees allegedly used to extort money from businessmen and rich people by threatening that they [gangsters] would damage their properties or set their business establishments on fire. “Nothing can resist us, even if you seek help from the law enforcers.”

The gangsters identified themselves as members of “Ex-Service Scott Command Force”. They used to send letters to their target people, asking them to pay huge amount of money.

Surprisingly, they tell their target people that they will run business and when time comes they will return the money.

The RAB 2 personnel in the early hours of Monday arrested two members of the gang after they had sent a letter to the owner of “Jounpur Furniture” located in the capital’s Taltola under Kafrul police station, asking Tk27 lakh.

In the letter, they threatened that they would set his business organisation to fire, if their demand was not met.

The detainees were identified as Mashiur Rahman of Muladi upazila in Barisal and Md Sumon of Bakerganj in Barishal.

Additional Superintendent of Police Raihan Uddin Khan, also the operation officer of RAB 2, said those people also introduced themselves as the major of the army.
