Mystery shrouds the death of a minor girl, who was found dead at her residence in a shanty of Jangle Salimpur area under Sitakunda upazila in Chittagong yesterday afternoon.
But police could not determine how she was shot or who had shot her.
Deceased Nahima was the daughter of Ayub Ali, of Rosanggiri in Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong, and was a resident of Jangle Salimpur area, said police.
Iftekhar Hasan, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda police station, said the residents of the shanty heard the sound of firing in the victim’s residence at 12 noon and rushed to the house and found the girl with a bullet injury on her back.
Later, Nahima was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the on-duty doctor pronounced her dead, said Iftekhar, adding that the body was sent to the CMCH morgue for an autopsy.
Quoting locals, the OC said Nahima’s elder brother, Piyaru, was involved with criminal activities and the ill-fated girl might have been shot while he was handling his firearm.
Police, however, did not find any firearm in the house but they found the victim’s blood there, he said, adding that, Piyaru and his mother have been on the run since the incident.
“We are looking into the matter and a case was lodged with Sitakunda police station in this regard,” added the OC.
Meanwhile, Pahartoli police recovered a beheaded body of a 30-year-old unidentified man from the sea shore at Dakkhin Kattoli in the port city at around 12:30pm, said OC Azizur Rahman of Pahartoli Police Station.
The five foot and three inches tall person was found unclothed and police assume that he was killed on the previous night, he said.
The dead body was sent to the CMCH morgue for autopsy and a case was lodged with Pahartoli Police Station in this regard, added the OC.
