Abidul Islam Abid, prime suspect in the Fulgazi Upazila chairman Ekramul Huq killing, shot Ekramul first and later his vehicle was torched to ensure death, RAB has said at a press briefing in the capital.

Abid is also a cousin of lawmaker Nizam Uddin Hazari.

About 40-50 people took part in the killing mission of Ekramul Haque, RAB said on Saturday at the press conference after the arrest of eight people from the capital.

“The information has been obtained from primary interrogations. We have received some more names. RAB is trying to arrest those on the run.”

“The pistol used to kill upazila chairman Ekramul Huq had been supplied by one Zahid Chowdhury. As part of their previous planning, Abid had opened the firing first”, said Wing Commander ATM Habibur Rahman, director of legal and media wing of RAB.

“The planning for the murder of Fulgazi upazila chairman had been projected at night on May 19 at Feni Gymnasium,” said Habibur.

He said at least five pistols had been used in the gun attack and all the firearms had been served by one Zahid Chowdhury.

The RAB director also said immediately after the car of Ekramul reached near the cinema hall, the killers obstructed his car by creating an artificial traffic jam using some human haulers.

The law enforcing agencies have arrested eleven persons from Dhaka and Feni on Friday night for their alleged involvement with the killing of Fulgazi Upazila Chairman Ekramul Haque.

Of the arrestees, eight persons have been held from the capital’s Bashundhara area.

The arrestees are Abid, Kazi Sanan Mahmud, Zahidul Hasan Saikat, Md Zihad, Shajalal Uddin Sipon, Chowdhury Md Nafiz Uddin Onik, Sajjadul Islam Patwary and Md Helal Udin.

Moreover, Feni police have arrested three more persons from different parts of the town on Saturday night, Feni Model police station Officer-in-Charge Mahbub Murshed said.

They are now under primary investigation whether they were involved or not in the killing incident, he said.

On Tuesday, 47-year-old Ekramul Haque, a two-time elected chairman of Fulgazi upazila, was shot and burnt alive by unidentified criminals in the Academy area of Feni district town.
