A vegetable vendor has been chopped to death in the early hours of Saturday in Jhenaidah sadar upazila.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Khaleque, 42, son of Lutfar Rahman of Enaytpur village of the upazila.
Conjugal dissatisfaction might be one of the causes of the incident, the police suspected primarily, Jhenaidah police Officer-in-Charge Shahbuddin Azad said.
He said: “Abdul Khaleque was sleeping on the courtyard of his house due to severe heat. In the early hours of Saturday when a gang of miscreants entered into the house and started chopping, leaving him injured.”
Later, he was rushed to a local private clinic and referred to Jhenaidah sadar hospital in a critical state where the on-duty physicians declared Khaleque dead.
The body was sent to Jhenaidah sadar hospital morgue for postmortem.
As Abdul Khaleque had two wives, there may have been a conflict in the family that lead to the killing incident, the police said.
